Childbirth Education

Our Childbirth Education classes (antenatal classes) help prepare you for labour, birth, and the early days with your new baby. Classes are a lot of fun. They can help to answer any questions you have about the pregnancy and birth process, and more importantly, they put you in touch with other expectant parents. Most groups go on to form lasting friendships, and have regular coffee catchups after their babies are born.

The classes are held at Upper Hutt Parents Centre, on the corner of Ward and Miro Streets, Wallaceville, Upper Hutt. We generally run a seven week course, one evening per week, from 7pm-9.15pm, though from time to time a ‘weekend intensive’ course is available for two full days held on consecutive Saturdays. Check out current availability.

Courses cost $215, and are led by a qualified Childbirth Educator. The cost includes a hospital tour, establishment of a coffee group for ongoing support, and membership to our Centre (which has additional benefits).

The course covers:

  • Nutrition and exercise during pregnancy
  • Labour signs and stages
  • Pain relief options and interventions
  • The birth process
  • Breastfeeding and newborn care
  • Practical parenting
  • A tour of birthing suites and postnatal rooms at Hutt Hospital

We encourage you to enrol early to ensure you get a spot. We limit course numbers to 9 couples. To see our schedule and enrol and make payment for the course, click here.
